Individual and Group Mentor Coaching Package
Mentor coaching means being coached on your coaching skills in preparation for certification as a coach. Our Mentor Coaching Package includes 7.5 hours of group mentor coaching and 3 hours of individual mentor coaching.
“Mentor coaching for an ICF credential consists of coaching and feedback in a collaborative, appreciative and dialogued process based on an observed or recorded coaching session to increase the coach’s capability in coaching, in alignment with the ICF Core Competencies.”
International Coaching Federation (ICF)
What is mentor coaching?
Mentor coaching means being coached on your coaching skills in preparation for certification as a coach. It provides professional assistance in achieving and demonstrating the levels of coaching competency and capability demanded by the desired credential level. Mentor coaching allows for reflection and practice, with feedback from the Mentor Coach.
It is not coaching on work goals, personal elements, life balance or other topics unrelated to the development of your coaching skill. (If you are looking for executive coaching, please see here.)
Of the required 10 hours, up to 7 hours can be group mentor coaching (maximum 10 participants) and at least 3 hours must be one-to-one (1:1) mentor coaching.
Mentor coaching and the ICF
In order to apply for an ICF credential, you are required to have been coached for a minimum of 10 hours over a minimum of 3 months by a qualified Mentor Coach who holds ICF certification at the same or higher level than that which you are applying for.
To renew your Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential, you require an additional 10 hours of mentor coaching since the initial award of your credential.
The ICF also count mentor coaching as Continuing Coach Education (CCEs). In the ICF Core Competencies, Competency 2. “Embodies a Coaching Mindset” emphasizes the importance of mentor coaching because it requires coaches to:
- Engage in ongoing learning and development as a coach
- Develop an ongoing reflective practice to enhance one’s coaching
- Seek help from outside sources when necessary
Group mentor coaching
The group sessions are organized so that one or two of the ICF Core Competencies are focused upon in each call. There will be opportunities to discuss each competency, consider what it means and its importance as a coach and share how or when you’ve put it into play. The second half of each call will involve coaching so that all participants have an opportunity to be coach and coachee across the full series of calls and receive feedback from peers and the Mentor Coach.
Individual mentor coaching (1:1)
To fulfil the individual mentor coaching required by the ICF, you will have 3 hours of 1:1 mentor coaching with one of our highly experienced, ICF certified Mentor Coaches.
